At Moncton Community Residences Inc., SILP gives adults with developmental challenges a practical path to living on their own - backed by the right support, at the right time. We build around each person’s strengths and priorities so home life feels stable, confident, and truly theirs, while safety and well-being stay front and centre.

Supported Independent Living Program (SILP): Your Goals, Our Support

How It Works

We start with your goals and create a person-centred plan. Trained MCRI counsellors provide flexible support - from occasional check-ins to daily assistance - with 24/7 on-call help for urgent needs. Support focuses on real-world skills (home management, budgeting, personal care) and community connection (volunteering, work, social activities). The program emphasizes tangible progress: people move from family homes into their own apartments (sometimes with a roommate), complete credentials, start jobs, and handle major life moments with steady, respectful support.

Who It Serves

Adults with developmental challenges who can live in their own home with daily or weekly support and benefit emotionally, mentally, and socially from stable housing. Individuals who want a personal, community-based living environment while retaining autonomy and dignity

Your Role as participant

This is a voluntary program. You bring your goals, preferences, and pace. We’ll map out the first steps together, then adjust as your needs change. Families and caregivers are welcome partners - when and how you want them involved.

What MCRI Provides

We’re committed to making independence achievable and sustainable. Our philosophy is to do with, not to do for - we act as a guiding hand, without taking away independence and autonomy:

  • Daily Living Skills: Cooking, meal prep, cleaning, personal care, and home management
  • Financial Literacy: Budgeting, bill payments, and basic financial planning (with your consent, we can help set up simple systems that keep money matters on track)
  • Employment & Volunteering: Job readiness, résumé support, and placement assistance
  • Community Engagement: Encouragement and practical help to join local events, programs, and activities
  • Health & Wellness: Medication reminders, health-care coordination, and mental well-being support
  • Social & Emotional Support: Building healthy relationships and lifelong connections
  • Housing Stability: Coaching to maintain safe, affordable housing
  • Flexible Support & Safety: From scheduled visits to 24/7 on-call assistance for emergencies

All SILP counsellors are MCRI staff-trained, supervised, and focused on your goals. We’re present for everyday wins and tougher days alike-whether that means learning to budget, celebrating a first paycheque, or offering steady support through major life events.
